How to cut a video on iPhone
Trim a video on an iPhone without using the Photos app's built-in editor.
Here is how to cut a video on an iPhone easily, privately (no uploading!) and for free. Edit Videos is the free online tool our team maintains so you can cut videos and much more. It first checks that your browser can do the work. Follow the steps below.
Steps
- Open Edit Videos in the browser on your iPhone.
- Select Choose a video or audio file and pick the video. The editor opens with it.

- Your video is the bar under the preview. Drag its left end to the right and its right end to the left until only the part you want is left.

- Select Export video, then Save video.

What to know
- The editor works only where the browser can decode and encode video by itself. It tests this on your iPhone and never goes by the browser's name.
- The cut is saved as an MP4, whatever kind of file the video was. Edit Videos writes no other kind of video.
- Edit Videos hands the finished file to your browser. Where it lands, a save dialog or the browser's downloads, is the browser's choice.
- The original is left as it is. Edit Videos only reads the video you chose and makes a new file.
Questions
Does it work in Safari on an iPhone?
That depends on the version. The editor tests what the browser can do when it opens. If a part is missing, the page says which.
Is there an app for iPhone?
No. Edit Videos is a web page, on a phone as on a computer.
Can I join clips on an iPhone?
Yes. Select Add video or audio for each clip. They play in the order they sit on the timeline and are saved as one MP4.
